Sanjay and Melissa's wedding was a fusion of cultures. The couple decided to have a traditional Indian wedding at Sanjay's parents' home in Pleasanton, CA. The home was beautifully decorated and had a lot of ornate and colorful decorations in the garden that added a lot of vibrance to the wedding. Since most of the guests from Melissa's family weren't familiar about the Indian traditions, the couple shared handouts of the rituals to be performed during the wedding ceremony to all the guests so they could follow along. The priest was kind enough to translate all Sanskrit mantras in English for the audience.
The groom entered the mandap on a Ghodi, or a white horse. Family members adorned the Ghodi with embellishments to match the groom as all eyes were on the two as they made their way through the procession. A Dhol player took charge of the procession and the family members danced to the dhol music as they accompanied the groom to the mandap. It's always fun to be a part of an Indian wedding, but to capture it through my lens was an enthralling experience. Hoping to do more of the Indian weddings in the near future.
